Axcet HR Solutions Completes OSHA’s VPP Star Site Recertification

When it comes to safety, there’s no greater honor than OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) Star recognition. According to OSHA, the Star recognition is “for employers and employees who demonstrate exemplary achievement in the prevention and control of occupational safety and health hazards, in addition to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of their safety and health management system.”

At Axcet HR Solutions, we are proud of our commitment to workplace safety and pleased to be one of the very few PEOs certified through OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program. We’ve been certified for eight years and on July 25-26, 2018 we successfully completed the recertification process, extending our VPP Star certification for another five years.

What is VPP?

Osha’s VPP promote “effective worksite-based safety and health.” The program was officially formed by OSHA in 1982 and approved its first site that same year. VPP has set, performance-based criteria for safety and health, and worksites are invited to apply to be part of the program. After the initial application and its review, a rigorous onsite evaluation is performed by a team of OSHA safety and health experts. If a site qualifies, it is placed into one of three programs. From highest recognition to lowest, the OSHA VPP sites can be one of the following:

  1.  Star: For those who have demonstrated EXEMPLARY achievement in the prevention and control of occupational safety and health hazards and the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of their safety and health management system. Axcet HR Solutions is a Star site.
  2. Merit: For those who have developed and implemented GOOD safety and health management systems, but who must take additional steps to reach Star status.
  3. Demonstration: For those who operate effective safety and health management systems that differ from current VPP requirements.

Why Does VPP Matter?

The proof is in the numbers. The average VPP worksite has a Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART) case rate of 52 percent below the average for that site’s industry. Reductions in injuries and illnesses begin the day the site makes a commitment to the VPP approach and their rates continue to drop throughout their time in the program. And while protecting your most valuable assets, your employees, is your number one priority, having a safe workplace increases profits through increased productivity and decreased workers’ compensation premiums.
